Radio Nopal is a collective Internet radio station, located in the San Rafael neighborhood of Mexico City. It broadcasts using mensajito.mx, a free-tech device that allows them to create an Internet radio station without the use of computers. They have a space for national and international artistic residencies, as well as free and paid workshops ranging from the teaching of trades to the creation and use of technological tools. Radio Nopal is a meeting place that generates collaborative links, and promotes the creation of communities through the free exchange of a multiplicity of content. They are a media committed to informing, accompanying and proposing topics of interest.
Diego Aguirre Fernández is a graphic designer and a pioneering force in community-based internet radio. A co-creator of the long-running independent station radioglobal.org, he is the founder of Radio Nopal, a Latin American internet radio association producing Spanish-language content from Mexico City. With over 100 collaborators, Radio Nopal operates sociocracy through specialized circles focused on free technology development such as the innovative mensajito.mx.
As a transmission and sound artist, Martín Rodríguez’s work emerges from his Xicanx upbringing along the Arizona-Mexico border. He employs performance, intervention, and installation as a process for deciphering aural histories and entangled identities.
