Join us for a panel discussion entitiled ‘Autochtones et Archives: Mnemonics, living objects, and museums’ curated and moderated by Katsitsanoron Dumoulin-Bush with panelists Amanda Lickers, Léuli Eshrāghi, Melody McKiver, Paul Seesequasis and Lori Beavis.
This panel discussion will offer audience members a round-table look into Indigenous-led, or focused, archival practices. The goal of the round table for the panelists, would be to exchange and explore perspectives on archive and record-keeping from the different contexts in which we operate (Urban, In-community, Independent, Institutionally backed etc.). Some will be invited from newly established practices, others from long standing institutions, and a few from somewhere in between. The goal of this meeting would be to ‘compare notes’ on how we operate, our selection criteria for projects and research, and more importantly; what best practices can be established for future Indigenous archives and those who support their creation and existence.
The panel discussion is part of Archiving Improvisation: Community, Culture and the Weight of History, a series of community focused roundtables open and free to the public. The roundtables will focus on questions related to archiving improvised music. What roles does the improvisatory, and archives of the improvisatory, play in preserving the history of counter-hegemonic social and political actions? What new roles might be called for in our present times? What archives still need to un-earthed, or created from scratch? How might methods themselves improvisatory in nature be required to create, disseminate and perpetuate such archives?
